The author was a White Russian Cossack officer who at the end of the revolution found himself with his regiment in Chinese Turkestan. Initially he set out on a bicycle, changing it for a second-hand motor-bicycle in Singapore. On reaching Karachi he was provided with a brand new British Ariel motor-bicycle by the Ariel company. He completed the world tour arriving back in Shanghai two years later. All this time he was travelling on a ‘Nansen Passport’ issued to those who had effectively become stateless. Book No. 13113.
