Edith Cavell helped about 200 allied soldiers escape from German occupied Belgium. She was arrested and shot by firing squad on 15th October 1915. This account was published soon after. Charles Sarolea (1870-1953) was Professor of French at Edinburgh University and editor of "Everyman".
